This is the Club's RugbySafe and Player Welfare information page.

  • Combe Down RFC Medical Emergency Action Plan and 'reportable injury* event form' can be found here
  • The event form should be completed and lodged behing the bar in the clubhouse for any reportable injury as defined by RFU*

Any Club member wishing to complete any of the following courses should contact Giles White, 07775 686 919, giles@gileswhite.co.uk (or any member of the Club committee):

  • Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union (EFARU)
  • Headcase Concusssion course
  • Defibrillator course
  • Introduction to Safeguarding
  • Play it Safe

Location of First Aid equipment

- First Aid kits are located in: Kit store (garage); Changing Rooms (kit room); Clubhouse (behind bar and in cupboards to the right of kitchen door)

Notes for Team Managers and/or Coaches

You are required by the Club to:

  • Maintain a list of emergency contacts for all players
  • Maintain a 'Player Medical History' and any relevant medical conditions for all players
  • Ensure that any player selected to represent the Club in a League or Cup game is registered on the RFU's Game Management System, and is eligible for senior or age-grade rugby, according to RFU Regulation 15 - the Playing Adult Rugby club approval form can be found here
  • Be aware of the location of First Aid kits and defibrillator
  • Complete a Concussion Awareness course (online course here)
  • Complete an online Play it Safe course
  • Carry out a general safety check on pitch and equipment prior to every training session or game
  • Download the Howdens RugbySafe app - 'Proactive Reporting' - which can be used to carry out and record your risk assessments, to report incidents and injuries 

Team Managers and Coaches are encouraged to complete a defibrillator course.

* a 'reportable injury' is one that results in a player being admitted to hospital; death that occurs within 6 hours of a game finishing; and injuries from equipment or artificial grass pitch

Risk Assessment

The Club has committed to maintaining a Risk Assessment and Action Plan, which is provided by the RFU's insurer, Howdens. This is currently being updated (at August 2025), and will be posted here on completion.
