Sad news at Combe Down Rugby Club that Sam Hyden Snr passed away this week!
Sam joined Combe Down from Stothert & Pitt Rugby in 1968 and became a valuable member of a strong 2nd XV. Filling in for the 1st XV when required, a strong no 2 jumper in the line outs before the days of lifters. He was always a safe bet on our own ball, not the biggest of second rows but a fit and mobile player!
Sam served as a committee member over many, many years involving himself whereever he was needed and eventually served as Club President from 2015 to 2018. He was always up for our many trips down to Cornwall, various destinations over the Bridge and even abroad. Sam raised a great deal of money over the years to help keeping players costs down. Sam used to say to me "Wyn we're ok this weekend, the kitty is looking good for a few stops". I think  he took a lot of enjoyment out of that and then on to the next fund raising venture.
Thanks Sam RIP
Condolences as always from Combe Down to Sam's wife Rita and other family members, but especially Sammy Jnr.
