Combe Down RFC have sadly lost another old player, John (Jasper) JusticeAnother member of the successful young 2nd XV in the mid 60's who graduated to the 1st XV. A tall rangy no8 who was very, very quick, Jasper wouldn't have been out of place on the wing,in fact he did appear there a few times over the years. Not a flashy player he just went about his business without fuss but very effective!A destructive hard tackling backrow, also an option in the lineout, he probably was the start of a long list of many more modern day excellent back rowers who followed in his footsteps whilst playing for the DownOne of my many memories of Jasper was how he always seemed to raise his game when we played the top Gloucester and Welsh sides, non stop tackling and first to the breakdown, a class act and a sign of a great player. Rugby played with a smile on his face and not afraid to make mistakes but able to move on very quickly from them. But it would be remiss of me not to mention the off the field character Jasper. He would have been alongside his great friend Brian Smith a stand up comedian! On our many long coach trips the two of them certainly made the time pass more quickly. Also with Jasper you were never far away from a prank or laugh whenever he was around, certainly kept you on your toes at timesSadly missed by us all not only for his playing ability but a wicked sense of fun and humourAs always condolences to Christine and family from all at CDRFC
